Fire Saga composer “would be delighted” to write Eurovision theme

Speaking on the latest episode of The Euro Trip podcast, the composer of Netflix film ‘Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga’ has revealed he would be keen to write the theme for next year’s contest should Daði Freyr win in Rotterdam this May.

In at interview discussing his work on the movie, released last summer, Atli Ovarsson explained he’d love to be involved should his home nation host the competition next year.

“I have not been approached, but I would be delighted to do it, obviously.”

The Icelandic composer, who has worked with the legendary musician Hans Zimmer in the past, was talking after the film received a nomination for a prestigious Grammy Award.

The film, which saw fictional duo Fire Saga compete in Eurovision, went on to smash Netflix streaming records. In it’s first week of release the movie was the top-streamed item on Netflix in the United States and reached the No. 1 ranking position in multiple other regions.

Atli also discussed the original plans for the film’s release, which had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Everyone was disappointed that it didn’t work out… the movie was supposed to be premiered in Rotterdam the day after the final.”

The Grammy Awards are currently due to be held on 14th March, with Fire Saga nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media.
