The winner of the inaugural American Song Contest will not make an appearance at Eurovision in Turin, according to the stateside competition’s Executive Producer Christer Björkman.
Speaking in an exclusive, feature length interview just days after the second ASC show, Björkman said that it would “not [be] doable” for the ASC winner to perform as a special guest in a Eurovision interval next month.
Asked about the possibility, Björkman said: “Yeah I would like to see that eventually.
“This year is gonna be complicated because we moved our show [back] four weeks due to COVID so that complicated it. It’s now in the same week [as Eurovision] so I think that’s not even doable because obviously in Europe we wouldn’t keep a spot open like that.
“But in the future – if there is a future – yes, that would be great.”
The final show of the 2022 edition of ASC takes place on May 11, just one day before Semi Final 1 of Eurovision in May. Because of this logistical and contractual complications would make an appearance of ASC’s winner nigh on impossible.
American Eurovision fans hoping to see an appearance of last year’s Eurovision winners Måneskin at ASC this year will also be disappointed.
“I would have loved to have Måneskin in our show”, Björkman said.
“But being in the same week that’s also gonna be impossible. They will be totally blocked in Italy obviously. For a future final that would be great both ways I would say.”
