Legendary Swedish singer Shirley Clamp has revealed that she has received offers to record prospective Melodifestivalen songs every year for nearly a decade.
Speaking exclusively to The Euro Trip Podcast about the topic, Clamp also said that in some years she has received multiple offers.
Asked specifically if she is sent songs every year, Clamp said: “Yes. Every year writers send me songs.
“But then you have the crew at SVT, the bosses and everything. It’s not that they ask me every year, but I definitely get a lot of songs every year to listen to.”
Clamp is a Melfest stalwart having competed at the competition as a performer on six occasions.
She will be making her seventh appearance in the selection this year as she makes her Melfest return after eight years on the sidelines.
Her entry Let There Be Angels was written by Clamp herself alongside Mats Tärnfors, Pelle Nylén and Jakob Skarin.
Asked why she chose 2022 to return to Melfest, Clamp said: “It’s all about the song actually.
“Because every year, different writers send me music and great songs, and I even try to sing it myself and record it to really feel if it’s my song.
“This song was the reason [to come back]. I was like ‘okay, here it is, let’s do this again’”.
Clamp will perform third in the running order of the first Melfest heat at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm tomorrow (February 5).
