On the latest episode of The Euro Trip, Romanian-Norwegian singer Ovi confirmed that the song Playing With Fire could have competed in Melodi Grand Prix to represent Norway in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.
Ovi instead represented Romania with the song alongside his compatriot Paula Seling after winning the country’s national selection show Selecția Națională. The duo ended up finishing third at Eurovision.
Speaking to The Euro Trip presenter Rob Lilley, Ovi said: “The song is probably proof it’s a good song, maybe it wouldn’t have been with Paula.
“I would have worked hard to do that [had there been the opportunity to represent Norway]. I was very pushed in the studio at the time when I was in the process of writing Playing with Fire to do it with two other singers and pianists in mind.
“It could have been a Norwegian artist. Then again maybe it could have been a different song.”
Ovi has represented Romania at Eurovision on two occasions. After finishing third in 2010 he returned in 2014 alongside Paula Seling once again with the song Miracle which saw Romania finish in 12th place.
On the podcast episode, Ovi also discussed his thoughts and potential plans about competing at Eurovision again: “I do have some songs, one or two I think are pretty good.
“I know that Paula, deep inside she would like to [return to Eurovision]”
Ovi was born in Romania and moved to Norway in 1995. He competed in Melodi Grand Prix in 2006 with the song The Better Side Of Me under the name Ovi Martin before returning in 2009 with the song Seven Seconds which made it to the final.
