Canadian national broadcaster CBC is in discussions with Eurovision organisers to participate in the competition, The Euro Trip can confirm.
On Tuesday (November 4), the Canadian government published its 2025-26 Budget, in which it said it was working with CBC to “explore participation in Eurovision”.

In a statement given to The Euro Trip, Martin Green CBE, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest, said: “We’re always excited to know that broadcasters want to be part of the world’s largest live music show.
“The Canadian conversation with CBC is in its very early stages and we look forward to continuing our discussions with them.”
A spokesperson for CBC had, earlier on Wednesday (November 5), told The Euro Trip it had “no information to share at this time”. The broadcaster reiterated this line when questioned again by The Euro Trip after receiving written confirmation from the Eurovision Director.
It is unclear whether the conversations between Eurovision organisers and CBC are with a view to Canada debuting as early as 2026 or later.
CBC is an Associate Member of the EBU, and can participate in Eurovision events in the same way fellow Associate SBS of Australia has done since 2015, despite being outside of the European Broadcasting Area.
If CBC and Eurovision can come to an agreement in time for next year’s contest in Vienna, Canada’s arrival would mirror that of Australia’s more than a decade ago, the last time the contest was hosted in Austria’s capital.
The antipodean nation first participated as a special 60th anniversary guest, and a Canadian debut in May would fall in Eurovision’s platinum 70th anniversary edition.
Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne told Canadian media on Tuesday that Eurovision was “something that was asked by the people who participate”.
Although light on explicit detail and his comments not being met with the request for clarity, it is likely Champagne meant it was the EBU that reached out to CBC, not other participating broadcasters.
The news of a potential Canadian debut comes just days after Eurovision announced the return of Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova, countries that haven’t participated since 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively.
This autumn there is a continuing discussion about Israel’s participation in Eurovision. Ireland, Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia and Spain all committing to boycott the competition should Israel’s KAN remain a participating broadcaster.
Canadians haven’t been able to watch Eurovision on television since 2022 when broadcaster Omni Television showed both Semi Finals and the Grand Final without commentary.
CBC has never broadcast Eurovision.
