What we learned from Remember Monday’s exclusive feature-length interview with The Euro Trip

Remember Monday were finally announced as the UK’s 2025 Eurovision representatives on Friday morning.

One of the faces of the BBC’s Eurovision coverage, Scott Mills, teased us minute after minute on his Breakfast Show before finally pressing play on What The Hell Just Happened?

And just after they’d chatted to the nation on the airwaves, Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele all sat down with The Euro Trip for their first feature-length interview as Eurovision artists.

So, what did we learn?

It was the worst-kept secret… even for them

“All of our parents have done very well.”

Once you’ve been told you’re representing your country at the Eurovision Song Contest, a little bit of slack is cut to allow immediate family members to share in the celebration. But Holly found it more difficult than others to keep the secret a secret.

Charlotte remembers a recent stroll she took with Holly and Lauren: “Holly, in the space of 20 seconds, said, ‘Yeah, so when we’ve done Eurovision… Eurovision, Eurovision, Eurovision’.”

“Part of me wonders if we were the leak,” Holly admitted.

So now we know how it leaked.

Charlotte is a Eurovision fan

“Charlotte is one of the biggest Eurovision fans on the planet.”

The Eurovision family has got one of its own as part of the family of artists this year. Charlotte is a fan through and through and nothing was going to stop her from fulfilling all our dreams of standing on the Eurovision stage.

“Nobody was going to stop Charlotte,” Holly laughed.

Initial contact was made in November

“They really dragged it out!”

Although the girls feel like Andrew Cartmell and David May – the men who led the process to select Remember Monday – took their time, the band were late to the party.

Remember Monday were initially contacted in November last year to be considered as the UK’s act for Basel, with the official word given to them that they’d be representing their country just “three or four weeks later” before Christmas.

BBC set up songwriting sessions

It was the BBC Eurovision team that set the girls up with Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard and Eurovision-winning songwriter Thomas Stengaard.

Lauren, Holly and Charlotte had already had “quite a few” sessions with the duo Billen Ted, but the group wanted to “find a balance” between Eurovision and Remember Monday, which is when Stengaard and Kill J flew over from Denmark.

What the Hell Just Happened? was written on January 16, and Andrew Cartmell and David May confirmed the song as the UK’s song for Basel just four days later on January 20.

And what about the inspiration for the song itself? “We were imagining if we won Eurovision – our reaction and first thought would be something like, ‘What the hell just happened?’,” Lauren said.

Staging teases

How many interviews have you seen and heard with Eurovision artists saying absolutely nothing about their staging because they don’t want to give anything away?

Well, Holly gave us as much information as she dared: “It’s very girly. It’s a little bit theatrical. And we need to start training in heels.”

Fully committed to Eurovision

“I’ve not got a social plan until May 18th.”

Of course there is jest in that sentiment, but Lauren, Holly and Charlotte are all in, and are determined to make the most of this Eurovision experience.

“All of our family and friends, we’re not seeing them until then. We’re going to try and embrace every single second of this. There’s no other experience like this where it’s so unique and so once in a lifetime. It’s something that we’ll never do again,” Lauren said.

They said they’ll put their phones down and embrace it all from now until Eurovision Grand Final night on May 17.

Remember Monday… an act for the UK to be proud of.
