35,000 tickets available for Eurovision stadium event

Basel’s main football stadium will host a large outdoor viewing party of next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and 35,000 tickets will be available.

St. Jakob-Park has a capacity of more than 38,000 for football matches, meaning the ground will be filled to more than 90% of its capacity if all tickets are sold.

The football stadium – which will host the final of next summer’s UEFA Women’s European Championship – is just over the road from the venue of the three live Eurovision shows, St. Jakobshalle.

Basel-Stadt’s Project Manager for Eurovision 2025, Beat Läuchli, spoke exclusively to The Euro Trip about the city’s plans for welcoming the world next May.

“We are organising Arena Plus which is a public viewing of the Grand Final.

“There will be a 90-minute pre-show with national and international artists.

“We want to give all the fans who are not able to buy a ticket to also be part of the Grand Final. There will be live connections between the main venue.

“Ticket sales start at the end of January, and we have 35,000 tickets available so a lot of people can attend this show.”

Läuchli and his wider team are keen to make sure that Eurovision coming to town creates a legacy for residents in and around the area.

“People from Basel will be happy that they have this opportunity. It’s a once in a lifetime experience, not only for fans, but for people from Basel as well.

“We want to make the fans happy, but we also want to show the people from Basel how great this event is.”

As well as the live public viewing in St. Jakob-Park, the Basel-Stadt organising team are planning a number of other events for fans to enjoy when they visit for Eurovision.

Eurovision Village has become a permanent fixture of the Eurovision host cities in the last decade or so, and for the first time ever next year, the Village will be held indoors.

Messe Basel is the city’s exhibition space, and will have enough space to host 12,000 visitors at a time.

Läuchli has promised “music all around the city” with Eurovision Square hosting stages for local artists to “show how rich the music culture in Basel is”.

Eurovision Boulevard will offer themed drinks and meals.

Eurovision Street will be a highly decorated area of the city, again with bars and restaurants encouraged to get involved with the festivities.

Messe Basel will also host the popular EuroClub.

Läuchli has had calls with organisers involved in Liverpool’s hosting of Eurovision in 2023, and he and his team travelled to Malmö earlier this year for two days of meetings and workshops.

These meetings were in aid of making the fans’ experience in Basel as fun as possible, and passing learnings on to Basel-Stadt’s team for their next few months of organisation.
