Anna Sahlene aiming for Melfest 2023 participation

Swedish singer and Estonia’s participant in Eurovision in 2002 Anna Sahlene has said she wants to compete in Melodifestivalen again in 2023.

Speaking to The Euro Trip on site at the Melfest WKND pre-party press event in Stockholm ahead of the Melfest 2022 final tomorrow night (March 12), Sahlene said: “Now I feel that I wanna go to Melodifestivalen again.”

Sahlene is a three-time Melfest participant having made her debut in 2003 – one year after finishing third at Eurovision for Estonia with the song Runaway – and competed again in 2006 and 2009.

In 2022 she participated in Estonia’s national selection Eesti Laul with the song Champion finishing in fourth place in the final.

The Swedish singer did admit, however, that she is conflicted due to her love for Eesti Laul.

“First of all I really love Eesti Laul.

“But at the same time Sweden is my home country so I’m a little bit torn right now.

“I’m already thinking about next year, you know? Let’s f****** do this! I’ve only seen one heat [of Melfest] and I think Champion would’ve done really good.

“A lot of Swedes were asking me ‘why are you not here?’ So for next year, I’m not sure if I’ll do Eesti Laul or Mello. I’ve not really made up my mind yet.”

Anna Sahlene’s husband Jimmy Wahlsteen competed as a songwriter in this year’s Melfest, penning Browsing Collection’s entry Face in the Crowd.
