Speaking on the latest episode of The Euro Trip podcast, Aftonbladet journalist Tobbe Ek has suggested that Melodifestivalen will not tour Sweden in 2022.
Since the introduction of semi-finals at Melfest, the show has toured across the country, with the final traditionally held in Stockholm.
In 2021, all six shows were hosted in the Annexet in Stockholm without an audience because of the coronavirus pandemic, and fans have been warned to expect a similar situation next year.
When asked by presenter James Rowe about how exciting it would be for Melfest to tour across Sweden again in 2022, Tobbe Ek said:
“I spoke to someone who has been working with Melodifestivalen for more than ten years and they said we should probably count on Melfest next year not being a tour either.”
Ek continued, adding:
“It takes a year to set a tour up and they need to start planning for that now and who dares to plan for something like that now when we don’t know when the pandemic will end.”
The decision on whether Melfest will tour Sweden will be taken by Christer Björkman’s successors, more of which can be read here.
