Speaking on the latest episode of The Euro Trip podcast, Dami Im has said she is unsure if she will compete in Australia Decides in 2022, despite being guaranteed a place for the cancelled 2021 edition.
Australia’s 2016 representative who ultimately placed second in the Grand Final, revealed in February 2020 that she was set to compete in the national selection the following year.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and cancellation of Eurovision 2020, Australia decided to internally select Montaigne for 2021 instead of running its popular national selection programme.
Australia Decides is set to return in 2022 and many thought Dami Im’s entry would be deferred until then, but she has said that this has yet to be decided.
When asked if she will return next year, Dami said:
“I honestly don’t know. With everything that’s happening, you just don’t know what’s going to happen.”
“I might do it, I might not. I just want to get a bit closer to it and see how it feels. I’ve done it once, I’d love to be able to do it again but I’m just not sure when.”
When asked about the song she would’ve performed had the 2021 edition gone ahead as planned, Dami said:
“‘Paper Dragon’ was the song I was really considering as my Eurovision song. I think it would’ve been such a fun song and so different from Sound of Silence.”
